The first section tells the epic of the construction of the road, retraced through the photos then taken by Lieutenat Zappa, Commanding Officer of the 33rd Company when construction started, but it also includes photos taken by others like Liutenant Ruffini, Ricci, Ortelli, Second Lieutenat Cassina and other officers present at the time; finally we have the pictures taken by Captain Picone, the Commanding Officer who substituted Zappa.

These photos are very beautiful, dense, real and unique. There are a lot of them. For the most part they’ve never been seen before. We’ve discovered them within the families of the mentioned officers, while others were in archives, often lost or separated from their stories: we’ve exhibited only those whose story we’ve managed to reconstruct.  One after the other they take us back in time, they give us back the sense and atmosphere of that mission.
